BE FIT IN MIND AND BODY TO ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

I AM THE LIVING PROOF OF WHAT I SAY

BE FIT IN MIND AND BODY TO ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR LIFE I AM THE LIVING PROOF OF WHAT I SAY

I was born January 1943. As well as great success I have experienced all the psychological negatives of international business going wrong. I have beaten a catalogue of major sport injuries, especially ln rugby. Age-Fit works for me, maybe for you also.

Age-Fit - maintain an active body and an active mind to enjoy the rest of your life

Professional programs for all

Active Body

Active body – two big years in my life are captured first in the 1947 photo just below when I first realize how competitive I am, how I enjoyed winning. Then in the 2018 photo and film  taken on my 75th birthday I realized I am now competing only with myself. Change needed! Couldn’t go back to rugby (I wish!) or motor racing so decision for future sport needed! Decision made – take golf seriously and try to be competitive. 6 months before Covid I started playing twice at weekends and set my target to get down to 80 before my 80th birthday. I hit 80 on May 22nd 2022.     Now I have set a new target – to get down to 75 by my 85th birthday I work almost full time – that helps maintain both an active body and an active mind

Active Mind

Active mind – from business, sport, schooldays and my family and friends I have a huge memory bank. Luckily I have hundreds of photos from these 80 years. These photos activate my memories, challenge my recall and with work it keeps me alert Be as active physically as you can and keep your mind alert – that is the Age-Fit way. Some of these photos are in these memory links together with some text that has exercised my memory in writing it, whilst giving me real pressure in the recall.
** Pre 11plus ** Eltham College ** career intentions ** my millionaire years ** rugby – a huge story ** other sports ** my manufacturing obsession – a huge story ** family friends and our beautiful homes ** special holidays ** great people ** great music ** extra special moments

Age-Fit started in 1947 when I won the kid’s race at Hayling Island Holiday camp. Aged 4, I was the youngest. Now as the oldest, by 19 years, in my golf group I still enjoy winning - sometimes!

Birthday Challenges

These were my 75th birthday personal challenges. Click on the arrow and enjoy a few seconds of core strength proof. I now have a much lighter exercise regime
During this time when I was recovering from a serious bad debt I could not fund the working capital requirements of my machine tool engineering business so I fed my other passion, sport and professional level preparation for sportsmen During a hectic couple of years I qualified for these certificates – strangely none of the young students in the classes found my presence strange I realised my personal injury and illness experience put me in a good position to help non elite sportsmen or those suffering with bad posture or, in many cases, those wanting to enjoy the feeling that comes with better all round fitness. Having broken all my lumbar vertebrae as a young rugby player I have always been aware of how to avoid backache. This helped quite a few people. During my ‘aged student’ period I had qualified as a Level 4 Biomechanics Coach. This was helpful in confirming methods I already used and introducing me to new ones During the time I had the gym I organised The Ram Run OCR – obstacle course racing is a sport I wish had been around when I was younger. It combines a wide variety of exercises with running and if set up properly it is as good as it gets as the non elite sportsman’s exercise

Dead Lift

Dead lift 150kgs. Wanted to hit 170kgs but stopped at 160. This was a personal challenge but it woke me up to the fact I needed to use my time competing in a sport with people so we encourage each other. Golf it is
Now I still lift weights, much lighter, but concentrate mainly on developing strength and flexibility around the key areas – knees, hips, lower back, shoulders and neck and posture, it is not necessary to advertise age by bending over. I also do special exercises for the areas of arthritis I deal with and always working on balance. This takes only a few minutes and I do it at home

So what good is all that business and sport history to Age-Fit?

As an engineer I want quality performance. As a serious sportsman and coach – quality performance I set up my own gym. To be insured I needed to be certified so age 67 I started on the road to these qualifications. Before jumping back into machine tools for one last go I had 5 years training from 84 to 5 yrs old. Our KID-FIT program was very successful. Now my greater concentration is on Age-Fit

Why Age-Fit is different.

Because of my business and sports history I can combine physical exercise with mental stimulation – vital as you get older
Where it helps to break exercise programs into sections I can motivate discussion on many subjects

But I have another advantage – my family. I am the 2nd of four generations of fitness professionals.

â—¦ My elder son Tim had just started playing rugby for Scotland when he broke his neck. He was very lucky to be alive and even luckier not to be disabled, he just had to avoid any contact sport. He became of top strength and conditioning coach to international football and rugby teams, F1 and other drivers, boxers, golfers, cricketers. He now designs and equips high level fitness facilities.

◦ Tim’s wife, Helen, is a highly rated advanced Pilates instructor

◦ My granddaughter Megan, has her own gym – MEGABOX – in Leamington. The Pilates suite is located there

◦ And a real stimulus for conversations – music. My younger son Mike is a very good musician with advanced technical capabilities. In addition to being the recording engineer for Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and others he also co-writes with Toni Iommi. Having recovered from a serious depression following the death of his friend Ronnie James Dio he now mentors and lectures to young people

Scotland beat France who narrowly lost the RU World Cup final a few weeks earlier

Having played for Scotland U21 this was to be his only senior game. A serious hamstring injury caused him to pull out of Scotlands summer tour. Fully fit for the 89/90’ season he was flying and was selected for the 5 Nations Squad (to be Grand Slam winners). A few weeks before the first match he broke his neck. His activities since are described above

Mike with Black Sabbath at a recording session

Like his brother he was a very fast sprinter. Persuaded to run his first ever competition here he is beating a Kent Schools runner at 200m. He also won 100m and long jump. Middle school champion He retired from sport the same day!
